Matt Meilner (’12)

Matt Meilner (2012)Matt works as a creative apprentice at Digital Kitchen in Los Angeles, California.

WHAT YOU DO • • • I draw, brainstorm concepts, animate, design, and maintain a formidable nerf arsenal.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU • • • We live in an exciting time for media and technology. Every day someone is generating creative, original ideas that enhance the way we experience media. Advertising is all about using those ideas to tell captivating stories. I love being able to go to work every day and share my stories with the world.

HOW YOU WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE • • • I’ve always wanted to be on the cover of a Wheaties box.

HOW BETHANY HAS PREPARED YOU • • • Learning doesn’t stop when class is over, or when you get your degree. Alongside many other important things, my education at Bethany taught me how to learn. Critical thinking skills, industry awareness, and effective communication permeated every class I took at Bethany and prepared me for a career in design. I learned professional level technical skills in both theory and hands-on experience, which enabled me to make the most out of my two incredible internships with Promax BDA. Bethany’s connection with Promax and other industry leaders opened the door for my current job at Digital Kitchen.

WHAT YOU REMEMBER MOST • • • Beautiful daily chapel, long hours in the studio, Tav wings, Bill’s art history, Degarmeaux’s beard, sushi at Kurt’s, and the AWESOME professors in the art and media art departments.

ADVICE FOR CURRENT STUDENTS • • • Meet everyone and make tons of connections. Go to chapel (it’s 10 a.m., you can wake up). Get an internship outside of Mankato, drink lots of coffee, and the lunch special at China Star is awesome.
