The Botany class spent a day at the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory in St. Paul, Minnesota on November 15, 2016. The Marjorie McNeely Conservatory consists of several greenhouses with a large plant collection. Botany students studied the spore-producing structures of tree ferns and giant horsetails in the fern room. They also had a chance to see cycads, palms, orchids and several other tropical plants they would not have had a chance to see in Mankato. Our botanists attended a short presentation at the Ordway Japanese Garden on creating bonsai trees as well.
