Adjunct Faculty – Mental Health Counseling (3 positions)

ADJUNCT FACULTY POSITION(S):

Summary:

Adjunct faculty in the Counseling Department teach online courses as assigned and based on the needs of the program.

COUN 695 Practicum: Mental Health Counseling
May 15th – July 23rd, 2023.
The initial supervised, field-based, clinical experience in providing counseling services. The practicum course requires a minimum of 100 clock hours (40 direct service hours). Supervision will be onsite and in class. This course has a synchronous component of weekly supervision facilitated by a faculty. The timing of this supervision is determined by the course instructor. (3 credits)

COUN 697 Internship I: Mental Health Counseling
August 22nd – December 1st, 2023
Supervised, field-based, clinical training where students will gain direct experience in the diagnosis and treatment of mental health issues. Internship requires a total of 600 clock hours (240 direct service hours) between Internship I and II. Supervision will be onsite and in class. This course has a synchronous component of weekly supervision facilitated by a faculty. The timing of this supervision is determined by the course instructor. (3 Credits)

COUN 698 Internship II: Mental Health Counseling
January 8th – April 21st, 2024
Supervised, field-based, clinical training where students will gain direct experience in the diagnosis and treatment of mental health issues. Internship requires a total of 600 clock hours (240 direct service hours) between Internship I and II. Supervision will be onsite and in class. This course has a synchronous component of weekly supervision facilitated by a faculty. The timing of this supervision is determined by the course instructor. (3 Credits)

Minimum Position Requirements (including years of experience, certifications, licenses, etc.):

  • The Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at Bethany Lutheran College is seeking qualified candidates with a MA, MS, EdD, or PhD in the relevant area of counseling.
  • A doctoral degree in counseling or a related field, preferably Counselor Education and Supervision is strongly desired.
  • Licensure and experience as a professional counselor or psychologist is required, minimum of 5 years of professional counseling experience.
  • Status as an Approved Clinical Supervisor is preferred, must have documented training in provision of clinical supervision.
  • Candidates should have experience teaching in higher education with preference given to those who have taught in the online environment and are familiar with online teaching platforms (Moodle, Zoom, Bongo, etc.).
  • A demonstrated commitment to the counseling professional identity through advanced credentialing, presentations, publications, and service to the profession.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Foster a respectful, empowering learning environment that contributes to a positive student experience.
  • Encourage student participation in the learning process through a variety of learning techniques and strategies.
  • Provide weekly online group supervision in a live, 90 minute format to all enrolled students.
  • Encourage students to engage course content through a Christian worldview.
  • Provide content and assignments that nurture the development of a faith-informed clinical identity and clinical practice.
  • Be available to students for consultation and clarification regarding course subject matter.
  • Fulfill the instructional responsibilities of planning for course activities, appropriate teaching and supervision methods, and assessment of student work.
  • Provide feedback to students in a timely and meaningful manner aimed at fostering continuous growth and development.
  • Model professional approaches that instill high ethical values and encourage lifelong learning.
