The smiles on the faces of the Bethany Lutheran College nursing faculty perhaps tell the story best. The delight, or perhaps more aptly phrased thankfulness, is due to the tremendous professional success the first graduates of Bethany’s nursing program have experienced since earning their bachelor of science in nursing degrees in May 2019.

While the first nursing class was small, numbering four, the graduates each excelled in their licensure exam testing. All aspiring nurses take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN® exam). The tests results determine if individuals are properly trained and ready to begin practice as professional nurses.

The licensure exam is structured in such a way that a nursing candidate will answer a minimum of 75 questions to a maximum of 265 questions. Passing the test while answering the minimum number of questions is a benchmark of a well-prepared nursing student. All four Bethany nursing graduates passed the test answering the minimum number of questions.

And while the exam results are worthy of celebration, it’s also exciting to report that all four students received offers of employment prior to their graduation. Three of the graduates are working in the renowned Mayo Clinic Health System, two in Mankato and one in Austin, Minnesota. Another graduate chose a path of service as the school nurse for a school district in central Minnesota.

Director of Nursing Dr. Sara Traylor expressed her thankfulness by mentioning the students’ efforts that led to their successes.

“These students were successful on account of their work in the classroom, and during their clinicals. While I’m happy our faculty had a hand in their training, it’s really their diligent work that is helping them succeed as new nurses.”
