Bethany students earn top speech honors

Bethany Speech Team members Rachel Skaaland (junior) and Will Soule (freshman) competed at the National Christian College Forensics Invitational held March 17-19, 2012, at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee. The two made up the smallest entry among the competing institutions, but their efforts were exemplary.

Competitors are placed in one of three divisions; novice, junior, and open based on past experience.

  • Skaaland earned a first place award in program oral interpretation (open division) and placed fifth in parliamentary debate (junior division).
  • Soule placed first in extemporaneous speaking (novice division) and earned third place in parliamentary debate (junior division).

And as a team, both Skaaland and Soule earned an overall first place title in the small school division.
