Assistant/Associate Professor- Clinical Mental Health Counseling Graduate Program

The need for quality clinical counselors continues to grow in communities across the United States and beyond. Additionally, people are seeking help in line with the truths found in Holy Scripture. To meet this need there is a desire for people to adequately and effectively train the next generation of Christian counselors for important work in the community and society.

Bethany Lutheran College seeks applicants for the new master’s degree program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. This full time, 12 month, faculty position will be responsible for teaching, advising students, and coordinating student clinical experiences in a high quality, confessional, Christian program, aligned to the best practices within the counseling community. We are looking for people with the following skills to make an impact on the next generation of Christian counselors:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate and instill a shared vision for implementation of curricular and instructional strategies with respect to a holistic program design for the realization of established standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to gather diverse perspectives for common goals and innovative programming.
  • A strong commitment to academic integrity, rigor and integrated assessment for continuous improvement.
  • A strong commitment to synergistic approaches to Christian servant leadership in practice.
  • Exceptional public speaking, presenting, and teaching skills.
  • Exceptional relational skills and desire to engage with learners in a service minded manner.
  • Goal oriented, with experience and joy in meeting both personal and team goals.
  • Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated ability to serve through the completion of multiple tasks simultaneously yet seamlessly.
  • Ability, capacity and commitment to work some evenings and weekends as needed to serve Master’s degree students and accomplish program goals.
  • The successful candidate will also be committed to the mission of Bethany Lutheran College. They will promote the College’s values and integrate these into their teaching and curriculum.

Education and Experience:

  • Earned doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from an accredited institution and preferably from a CACREP accredited doctoral program. ABD will also be considered, only if all degree requirements will be completed by July 31, 2020.
  • Professional identity within the counseling profession through membership in professional organizations pertinent to counseling (e.g., ACA, ACES, and/or sub divisions and/or state equivalents).
  • Must be a member of an ELS/WELS congregation and have a commitment to the doctrinal positions of the church.
  • Minimum of 5 years in educational setting with focus on counseling.
  • Experience with residential and online teaching platforms and/or online teaching experience preferred (Moodle, Adobe Connect, Zoom, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience in leading adult learners to realize clearly defined professional development goals.
  • Experience in CACREP accreditation is desired.
  • Demonstration of professional and community involvement.

Compensation

  • Salary is commensurate with experience and background; comprehensive benefit program.
