TV Service

The viewing habits of students and TV has changed dramatically over the years. Many students choose to watch their favorite shows through their computers rather than on a TV. Netflix has become the source of much of our network traffic as students move from cable to Internet options. We expect these changes to continue as the providers continue to move toward providing more and more content over the Internet and even access to local channels. At this point Bethany is still offering a package of channels from Direct TV, they are available in all of our lounges and for a fee in the residence hall rooms.

If you wish to receive TV service in your room, the cost is $100 per semester. You may want to split this cost with roommates. Payment is due at the beginning of each semester. Students who switch rooms or roommates will need to work out the finances among themselves. The business office will not offer credit or transfer payments to a new room. Many of the students who subscribe want the convenience of being able to watch live sports or other programming in their rooms rather than in the lounges. It is not unusual for the student who was sure they needed TV in their room first semester to find they were far too busy with activities and schoolwork and discontinue it for second semester.

In addition to Netflix we have seen an increase in students using Hulu, Sling TV, CBS All Access, Amazon Prime content, and some using the login from your home cable provider to watch some content live.

Regarding channel selection on-campus, the service is similar to what is provided from our local cable TV provider. We provide televisions in the student lounges. The channels we receive from the satellite system are listed below.
